General News: It’s the ultimate in narcissism — personalizing your beer with a selfie

Just when you thought the obsession with selfies could get no worse, Guinness and Smirnoff maker Diageo has created a way for drinkers to transfer their own images onto the foam atop their beer.

The brewer DEO, +1.59%DGE, +1.75% has developed a technology to enable drinkers to send selfies to a machine installed in bars that is able to “reprint” the photos on the head of a pint of beer — a “stoutie” it was called upon rollout at the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin.

The end result, rendered in malt-based organic ink that is harmless for human consumption, is similar in appearance to the leaf designs created in the froth on some cups of cappuccino and, for that matter, the occasional shamrock atop a Guinness.
