In One Chart: Thanks to Democrats, American pride plumbs historic low ahead of the July 4 holiday, new poll finds

Americans are proud people… just not as proud as they used to be.

According to a new Gallup poll, only 45% of U.S. adults say they are “extremely” proud, marking the lowest level since the first reading back in 2001. Still, 70% overall echo the Lee Greenwood lyric and say they’re proud to be an American — not “extremely” proud, mind you, but proud, nevertheless.

Like most things in this country, there’s a massive political divide in the results.

As you can see, only 22% of Democrats are feeling extreme pride at the moment, which is half of what that reading was before Donald Trump took office.
