Capitol Report: These are the 24 Democrats who are running for president

California Rep. Eric Swalwell on Monday became the first Democratic presidential hopeful to drop out of the race for the party’s 2020 nomination.

That decreases the number of candidates down to a still-high level of 24. The most recent entry into the crowded field is former Pennsylvania Congressman Joe Sestak, who jumped into the race on June 24.

Former Vice President Joe Biden remains the front runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, but he’s got company — lots of it. The Democrats seeking to take on President Donald Trump next year include Sen. Bernie Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, South Bend, Ind.
