Howard Gold’s No-Nonsense Investing: Here’s more proof that investing in emerging-market stocks is a bad idea

Year after year, Wall Street and investment advisers continue to assert that emerging markets are a good investment.

A Google search shows recommendations from the likes of Lazard and Goldman Sachs, while luminaries such as Jeffrey Gundlach, Jeremy Grantham, and Rob Arnott say EM is the place to be over the next seven to 20 years.

Well, it certainly hasn’t been the place to be over the past decade. Since the last bear market bottom in 2008-2009, the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index ETF EEM, +0.85% has risen about 175%, while the Vanguard Total Market Index ETF VTI, +0.41% which tracks a broad swath of U.S.
